The Moment

The moment

came as a disappointment.

Reeling from

the force of inadequacy.

Soaring lyrics

left bitter and unsung.

Tongue tied

up with sermons and sonnets.

The moment

came rushing toward me.

One instant

surging with the reality.

That moment

when I failed you.

Hidden secret

buried deep as wounds can go.

Stifled sigh

not a single word did speak.

Slight frown

as if the burning inferno, was mere child's play.

That moment

I'll carry with me.

That moment

I'll hold tight to my chest.

The moment

when I couldn't save you.

Of Today We Say

Hearts longing

Deepest breath

Beg to rest

--of today we say

‘Farewell’

Caress of finger

Familiar face

Beauteous everything

--of today we beg

‘Stay’

Borrowed days of living

The sleep of hard reality

Falsely padded to shield

--of today we agree

‘False’

Words of bitter truth

You assure me they are true

Survive, yes, but live too?

--of today we demand

‘Proof’

Soothing balm

Of reminded King of Time

You tried

--of today we beg, please

‘End’

Dead Alive

Stooping to bend over

A dead and rotting flower

Unknown reasons made you promise

You’d carry it awhile

As you descend the mountain

A spring in your step

Your vigilance to deathly pale lotus

Promised to remain intense

Sheltered in the palm of grace

You stopped when you heard the sound

A tiny song, yet silent to the world at large

Somehow you deigned to hear

Lifting broken to the sky

A smile in your eyes

Triumphant in what you saved-

The flower came to life

Promise of a lover

Fulfillment of all truth

You carried small twig down the mountain

Back to the fields of youth

Included and absolved

Sheltered in compassionate rest

Courage you poured drop by drop

Until the flower lived

Green Fingers & Sun-Faded Lace

Gracious surrender

Green fingers release the care

Into dancing sway

Of hypnotizing sun-faded lace

We waited for you dear Summer

We danced with you dear Spring

We mourn your tearful leaving

We rejoice with who takes your place

Plucked from low branch

You offer blessings off the vine

Forever held in grateful heart

The Earth gasps for your hands

Green fingers gently pry loose

Blessings from above

Shower low the bounty

Of your singing mind

Soft caress from forgotten warmth

Sun-Faded lace infused

She mingles so seductively

Intertwined with dimming green

One song to sing

Two voices low

Our Earth draws to loving heart

One green fingered, the other sun faded lace

Always

When dark depths were never-ending

And deep night

Was the only repeating promise

When it mattered most

You came close

And whispered

‘Here.’

At the point of endless dancing

When bright hope arose

And sunshine laughed at the flow of time

When it mattered most

You came close

And whispered

‘Staying.’

As day by day

Led the procession of mundane

And doubts arose to the point

When it mattered most

You came close

And whispered

‘Forever.’

When the tables turned

And a road led you away

As you fell into the hurt

When it mattered most

I came close

And whispered

‘Always.’

Farewell

One word

Hear

Taste

See

The depths of a single tantalizing moment

Carry the weight

Of what you said

So seductively

In past days

My ear burns

For you

To remind me and

Beguile a memory

Pause

Consider

This is not what I imagined it to be

This burning flame

And with a simple

Moment of doubt

I wave a languid hand and whisper

‘Farewell’

When the Day Comes

When the day comes

And our belief in sanity

Ends

And we see the tunnel

Ahead

I’ll race you

Barefoot and laughing

To meet that doom

When the day comes

And you can’t arise

From the weight of unknown days

I’ll take your hand

And pull

Until you stand upright

Ready

To take one more step

When the day comes

And speech fails you

I’ll be your tongue

Filling your silence

Until you don’t feel the weight

Of emptiness

Finding instead,

Everything else you didn’t know you had to say

When the day comes

And the only thing left for you

Is a flame filled dragon

Bent on your failure

I’ll stand beside you,

Hold shining metal while you pray

Until the fear melts away

And you find the faith to see a future day

When the day comes

And morning doesn’t wake you up

When sunshine plays across your face

I’ll lay next to you,

Play softly with your hair

Until time ends

And eternity is near
